You can cook in water or in sauerkraut juice. The dish will be sourer if you use fermented cabbage juice. But also more healthy.
- 1 cup lentils (any kind you want);
- 2 cups sauerkraut;
- 1 big onion;
- olive oil;
- black pepper, dried garlic, salt, to taste.
1. Rinse the lentils.
2. Chop the onion.
3. Heat olive oil in a big pan. Add the lentils, sauerkraut, and onion. Sauté 3-4 minutes, stirring.
4. Pour 2 cups water or sauerkraut juice. Add the spices. Do not add salt if you use juice sauerkraut. Cover. Simmer over medium heat, occasionally stirring, for 30-40 minutes.
